A project has been developed to install an additional heat exchanger to optimize the performance of the freshwater generator on the research vessel «Akademik Nikolay Strakhov». The project work and its implementation on the vessel were carried out under the supervision of inspectors from the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS).
The fresh water system is a critical component of any vessel, as it provides the crew and equipment with the necessary amount of fresh water. Like many other ships, the R/V «Akademik Nikolay Strakhov» uses a freshwater generator to produce fresh water from seawater.
The project to install the additional heat exchanger was designed to increase the efficiency of the freshwater generator and ensure the vessel’s fresh water supply is met under all operating conditions. The heat exchanger improves the desalination process by enabling more efficient use of thermal energy, which increases the unit’s output.
The project’s development and implementation were carried out under the strict supervision of RMRS inspectors, who monitored compliance with all necessary requirements and standards.
Upon completion of the work, the system was tested and commissioned. The test results demonstrated that the new heat exchanger effectively performs its function and fully meets the vessel’s fresh water requirements.
